Winter Wonderland Dance 2007

Winter Wonderland Dance 2007
Father Daughter Dance

I had the pleasure of escorting my lovely daughter to the Winter Wonderland Dance. This was a father and daughter dance for American Heritage Girls. Jenna was so excited for weeks leading up to this dance. She got a new dress and shoes. She bought me a flower to wear and I got her a corsage. Doesn't she look adorable. She is growing up way too fast.

We had a great time. Three of her friends' fathers are friends of mine who I had not spent time with in a while. Todd Shaw, Tom Boehnlein and Jerry Pennington. Our daughters kept us on the dance floor alot.

About half way, the hostess announced they would be drawing names for door prizes. We were waiting in line to get our pictures taken and Jenna said she never wins anything. About 2 minutes later...hers was the first name called. After the dance we all went to Steak 'n Shake and didn't get home until after 11:00. I am so glad we had this date.

You are so pretty!

Feel The Chill, St. Petersburg Florida

The photo doesn't do the picture justice. I am a glass half full kinda guy. I wish you could only see the beauty of the ice covered trees. It has been pretty here the last couple days. We have been pretty lucky with no downed branches or wires. Alot of folks have been without power. The kids were off school Tuesday and Wednesday with a 2 hour delay today.

Happy Valentine's Day

Thank you, Jeremy, for bringing up the topic of questioning loyalty to Christ. (To view Jeremy's blog, click on the link to the right.) I, too, have often thought about how much torture I could take before giving in. Have you seen this new book by Tim Wesemann? I have only just started reading it.

Book Description
"Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate, my wife and daughter are in trouble, and people that I work with may be involved in both. I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer -- this is the longest day of my life."

-Jack Bauer (actor Keifer Sutherland), from the hit TV show 24

The popular TV show 24 follows counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer in a real-time drama in which each episode is an hour out of a twenty-four-hour day. In this groundbreaking series, the entire twenty-four-episode season equals one day in real-time. Each chapter in Jack Bauer's Having a Bad Day presents an episode from the first season along with an unexpected faith truth. Using the vivid, powerful drama of a specific scene from each episode the book engages the reader to explore the truth of God relative to core spiritual concepts of faith and apply their findings to events in the very real time of our days.

Features and Benefits
The fan base of 24 is staggering -- 10 million people worldwide watch this show.
Readers re-live highlights from the first season while exploring faith truths that will energize spiritual life.
Christ's life-changing message is presented in a creative, compelling way, and backed by in-depth explorations of specific Scriptures that deal with the life of faith.

HEARING ON 'WARMING OF PLANET' CANCELED BECAUSE OF SNOWSTORM

Snow Day for Valentines Day

Anna is going crazy...two snow days in a row. it is her own fault, she has been doing the Snow dance since Saturday. The kids were off today and just as we were herding the clan off to bed for the night, Logan saw the announcement come across the TV screen....School Closed Wednesday too. Jenna is a little disappointed, she was looking forward to her class Valentine's Day Party. I told her they will probably have the party on Thursday. With that, she started jumping around and carrying on with the rest. Reagan, who doesn't have school on Wednesdays anyway, was yelling Yay Yaaaaay!

So, we are going to let them stay up a little longer. Funniest Home Videos is on. What is it with that show? It is always on. Don't like American Idol? That's OK AFV is on. Can't stand football, (baseball, basketball etc...), turn the channel and watch AFV. The President is having a news conference on every channel...but one...you can still see AFV. Don't know what to do with kids going crazy because there is no school tomorrow? No problem America's Funniest Videos IS ON!

I came home this afternoon a couple hours early because of the weather. When I walked in, there were valentine decorations all over the place. I thought we would share a couple of the pics. Oh yeah, the best place to watch AFV...Mom and Dad's bed.

Did you here the interview with Indianapolis Colts Coach Tony Dungy?

SuperBowl 41 had been hyped as a major social milestone in U.S. history, since for the time, the head coaches of both teams were black.

But when the game was over and the Indianapolis Colts had defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17, the winning coach said Jesus Christ was more important than any racial moment.

During the nationally televised post-game show on CBS, coach Tony Dungy was asked specifically about the "social significance."

Jim Nantz of CBS Sports: This is one of those moments, Tony, where there is also social significance in this victory, and to have your hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Tell me what this means to you right now.

Tony Dungy: I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything, I've said it before, Lovie Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that.

Here's the link to the article.

I guess this time they meant it.

OK...so they were right this time. We got a little snow when they said we would. The kids had an early dismissal from school. It took me 90 minutes to get home from Fairfield, a trip that should take about 20. Anna had already shoveled the sidewalk twice by the time I came home. As you can see from the picture, she enjoyed it so much, she went out and did it again. The kids just went to bed about 15 minutes ago. Anna was just watching TV and she looked over at me and said, Shhhhhhhh! I said what? She said "Don't say anything to the kids, they just announced that there will be no school tomorrow".

Our American Heritage Girl

Jenna has been wanting for some time to join American Heritage Girls. Anna has been talking with some friends of ours that we know from a previous church where we were members who have daughters Jenna's age. Five families decided to have their girls join the same Troop at a church in the area.

American Heritage Girls Organization is a scouting program for girls that supports the traditional values of God, Family and Country. AHG's programming promotes the Judeo-Christian values upon which our country was founded and strives to enhance the girls life experiences with fun filled activities supervised by trained adults, supported by family members and implemented by members. AHG's programming provides life skills, leadership skills and character building through a traditional troop setting.

These pictures were taken at Jenna's Investiture Ceremony in November. The AHG Oath that Jenna recites is: "I promise to love God, cherish my family, honor my country and serve in my community". We are very proud of Jenna.
